A British Coffee
Planter's Manor

It all began in 1867, when a British coffee planter built his grand manor amidst the emerald hills of Kandy — a place where mist caressed the slopes and the aroma of coffee blossom filled the air. This residence stood as a symbol of Ceylon's golden coffee era, a time when the land's charm captivated those who sought both fortune and solace.

Perched in the heart of the city in an area known as Heel Pan Kadhura — meaning "Pure Water Range" — the manor commands sweeping views across Kandy's storied skyline, the sacred lake and the mist-wrapped Knuckles Mountain Range beyond.

Lovingly Brought
Back to Life

More than a century later, destiny called upon the manor once again — through the vision of Mr. Thusitha Paranagama, a son of an ancient Kandyan family. Moved by a deep love and respect for his heritage, he undertook a painstaking restoration to honour the manor's colonial character while weaving in every modern comfort.

The original pillars of the verandah — crafted from mortar and brick — still stand. The two heritage suites on the ground floor occupy the original chambers of the old manor. Every newer insertion was made to preserve the historical structure, ensuring the spirit of the building lives on for future generations.

A Masterpiece of
Heritage Design

The interior design of Coffee Bungalow is the work of Mr. Channa Daswatte, a renowned heritage architect from the celebrated Bawa School of Architecture. His touch is evident in every room — in the way light falls through colonial windows, in the choice of materials that honour the past, and in the quiet elegance of each curated space.

The result is an interior that feels timeless — neither frozen in the past nor divorced from it — where guests can truly feel the layers of history beneath their feet.
