The Pekoe Trail is Sri Lanka's premier long-distance walking route, stretching 300 km through the heart of the hill country — passing through working tea estates, ancient forests, colonial bungalows and dramatic highland scenery.
Named after the finest grade of Ceylon tea, the Pekoe Trail winds from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya across 22 stages, passing through some of the most spectacular scenery in South Asia. The trail was developed with sustainability and community tourism in mind, routing through villages and estates where walkers can experience authentic hill country life.
Stage 1 of the Pekoe Trail begins in Kandy, passing through the Hanthana Estate and climbing into the hills above the city. This opening stage is ideal for guests at Coffee Bungalow — a full-day walk through tea country with sweeping views, returning to the bungalow in the evening.
For those wishing to walk multiple stages, our team can help arrange accommodation along the route and private transfers back to the bungalow or onward to your next destination.
